When Mrs Durrant (as I always called her) lived in Reading and came to Park United Reformed Church, I enjoyed chatting with her over coffee after the morning service. After she moved away we had telephone conversations. She was so interesting and interested and her voice had such a lovely timbre.

Doreen's quiet dignity and generous spirit endeared her to all. She taught piano to our daughter, Emily, and was thrilled to learn that Emily's three daughters had all taken up instruments. Through her skilled and effective teaching Doreen made lifelong friends and nurtured, in her pupils, an enduring love of music. She was endlessly patient, always interested in others, loved animals and lived a good life. She has left a wonderful legacy , through her example, to us all.

Dearest Mum. So hard to believe that you have left us now. As your first born I was spoilt rotten ! but both you & Dad have been a true inspiration in my life. It was you that gave me my love of music & profession with the BBC. I remember so fondly you accompanying me on the piano & Dad listening appreciatively.
Your love of animals , especially dogs showed your kindness to all God’s living creatures & you instilled that love in your children
.May you & Dad now rest in peace together.
Gillian , eldest daughter.
